Unit 4 Blog Loving-Kindness
Great information with soothing sounds of the ocean and mental imagery. I really enjoyed how they paused and gave you time to relax and really focus on the loving-kindness imagery and feelings. The male narrator in the beginning did not put me at ease with his nasally sound and voice did not put me in a soothing state. The female narrator put me in better state where I was able to relax. I really tried to get into what the narrator was saying but overall I don’t think the audio clip helped much. Halfway through the audio I found it hard to focus and was quite annoyed. I prefer complete silence where I can gather my thoughts and concentrate on the imagery I want to imagine. I can see how this will help people with opening up to the idea of loving-kindness but it did not work for me. Mental workout is when perform a stimulating task that is important to prevent Alzheimer’s as well as further develop our brains. Our goal is not to over stimulate our brain but rather stimulate it just enough to reap benefits. The research is proven through daily exercises of the brain in developing a highly stimulated mind. I can incorporate mental workouts by taking time out of my day to relax my mind, concentrate on my breathing, and concentrate on loving-kindness and the subtle mind.

Welcome/Relaxation Exercise
Welcome class, and welcome to Unit 2. I listened to audio feed on relaxation and it had an mild effect on my relaxation. Although good points were made during the audio feed, I can not reach the full scope of relaxation from the narrator of the audio feed. I tend to relax not by someone teaching me how to relax rather to self mediate or by keeping my mind occupied on hobbies I enjoy doing such as exercising or sports. The audio feed reaxed me to a certain point, I could not concentrate on the narrators voice the whole time, and often drifted away from the audio and concentrated on the images that I created. Relaxation techniques are different for everyone and so they should be because we all are uniquely different human being with very different life circumstances. For some, listening to a narrator guide you to relaxed state is the method of choice, although for others it can seem silly or non condusive to their relaxation techniques. A good run can take my mind off of many pressing issues and promote a healthy mental state and physical state at the same time. Running is what takes the edge off and lets me reduce my stress at the same time. Although this might not be the case for every individual.
