Finished!!

I can't believe we are done with the course. It has been a great journey throughout these 10 weeks, and I feel I am a better writer for it. We have learned so much about the writing process which will carry throughout my time at Kaplan as well as throughout life. Conducting research and proper citing are areas that I needed improvement on before this taking this class and now I feel comfortable with both aspects of my writing. It took a lot of work, but I overcame and conquered my weaknesses. Now its time to use these writing skills to use in the work force and throughout my classes at Kaplan. I want to finish off by saying thank you professor, it has been a term to remember.

Revising the Final Paper.

So it's almost here the end of the road and time to turn in our final research paper. These 9 weeks have gone by so fast and I have learned so much through the writing process to improve my writing skills. This week I will pay close attention to grammar mistakes as well as sentance and paragraph structure. I will create an abstract as well as review my title and reference page for correctness as well. I have a lot of work in front of me, and my goal is to finish early to get everything out of the way. I still have plenty of work in front of me, so I have to take it little by little to make sure I covered all my bases. Overall this class has been great in which I have learned a lot, and will carry me through my courses at Kaplan as well as in the real world where writing is an important tool to have. The knowledge I have obtained will carry with me for life.

My Vacation is Almost Over!!

It is sad to even think about my vacation being over because I had a wonderful time with friends and family. I will be back to the real world in no time at all, though a little part of me actually misses work. I had fun in Boston; during my time I went to the beach, enjoyed the nightlife and attractions as well as saw a Red Sox game and a Patriots preseason game. I love sports and especially Boston sports, so attending those games meant the world to me. I will miss my family and friends, but will stay in contact with them via facebook, email, and by phone until I come back up again. When I get back to Texas, I will be very busy again preparing for my move to Florida. I must stay organized and focused during my move because I do not want to miss anything or overlook anything. Once I get settled in Florida after a few months I will preparing my next vacation to Boston, because I love it here so much.

Great time at the Red Sox game!!

I was in Cape Cod for the weekend, enjoying time in the sun and all the amenities the Cape has to offer. On Sunday I left the Cape and made my way to Boston to see the Red Sox play the Toronto Blue Jays, in which the game started at 1:15. We arrived in Boston around 12:30, and found parking which is almost impossible to find in the city. We caught wind the game was in a delay to rain, so we met up with a few friends at a local bar across the street from Fenway Park. We had a blast at the bar and mostly caught up over old times. The delay pushed the game back to 3:15 and so we entered the park at that time. We had bleacher seats in dead center field, but they weren't that bad. After a few innings went by, there was another rain delay for 2 hours. We decided to stay, and got to move right behind home plate when the game resumed. Those seats were a dream come true and I was so happy I stayed for the rest of the game. I took plenty of pictures because I will probably never be able to sit in those seats ever again. On top of this all I almost caught a fly ball, I wished I reached about an inch more and I would of had it. If I caught that ball it would of been the best feeling ever, I was a little sad I missed it, but overall it was an excited experience.

Hurry at the Airport!

My plane was scheduled to depart San Antonio, TX at 0635 AM, I just so happened to arrive at the airport at 0610. I had to depend on my roommate for a ride and he just kept taking his sweet time getting ready, while I tried to hurry him up. So I finally arrive at the airport, trying to hurry to check in, when I see the line for the security backed up like traffic on the interstate. I was thinking to myself this can not get any worse, and than it did. I was checking in via the tele-mated machines when it says it is too late to check in my bags, at this point I am quietly freaking out. I head to check in desk, and they helped me out tremendously and promised me my back will make the flight. I was so relieved until I put my bag on the scale and was 3 lbs overweight. The man at the counter noticed my sense of urgency and told me to forget about the weight and hurry up to go catch my plane. I was so happy to have such great customer service. When I got to the security line, they just created a new line and I finagled my way to the front of the line, and got through almost unscathed. I was subject to the random searching, I told them my situation and they tried to work with me and hurry up. They went fairly fast and I continued to go catch my plane, and made it in time to catch the end of the boarding. Rule of thumb always show up 1-2 before any scheduled flights, not 25 minutes.

Vacation with Friends and Family

I will be going back to Boston, Massachusetts for 22 days come this weekend. I am very excited because I only tend to go home about once a year. I have a few things planned such as going to a Red Sox game at Fenway Park, going to Cape Cod to head to the beach, visiting family members in western Massachusetts, and heading into the city for drinks and conversation with friends. I have let all my friends and family know that I am coming home via phone, facebook and email, so I hope I have enough time to see everyone. Everyone is excited as so am I, because I love being in Massachusetts where I grew up with so many good memories. Maybe one day I will move back, but for now my work has me in Texas, and soon to Florida come November 1.

Buying a New Car..

Buying a new car can be a fun and rewarding experience, but a very stressful one at that. I dedicated my whole day Friday to buy a car that suits my lifestyle and needs. I knew I wanted a high end car who I could depend on for the next 5-10 years. I conducted my research Thursday night and saw many cars that sparked my interest. I narrowed my search down too three specific makes of cars: Lexus, BMW, or an Infiniti. I start my Friday morning off at dealership number 1, where my whole game plan changed and started looked the Acura's, but suddenly got back on track and kept my focus. The first two car dealerships were right next to each other and I scoped out a vast array of Lexus and BMW's , in which I reviewed thoroughly. They were excellent cars but I still wanted to see more, and this is when I headed to the Infiniti dealership. The new line of Infinitis were out, and were incredible until I looked at the price tag. These cars were over 50,000$, way more than my budget has called for. I was about to call it a day when I saw a BMW 325I on the lot which fit my price range of 20-30K, that I absolutely fell in love with. It had low miles and a price that was a once in a lifetime deal. I test drove the BMW and I was sold. I made the deal right there on the spot and I knew this was my next car. I am so excited right now, and look sharp in my new car. Overall it was a great weekend.

Car Flooded

The other day their was a massive rain storm that hit south Texas, and I just so happened to be driving in it. I was going through an underpass when my car got flooded with water. The flooded water reached levels to my seat cushions after just a few minutes. I was stuck no longer than 5-10 minutes before I got pushed out by some good Samaritans. My cars engine is flooded and who knows if I will be able to salvage my car. I have already started looking at new cars because they said it looks as though my car might be totaled. So now I have no car, and will have to some how get to and from work the next few days, until I hear word about my car or I buy a new one. To make matters worse my phone was in my pocket at the time of the flood and was submerged in water as well. My phone finally turns on, but only works for a few minutes without a charger. Tonight I will be at the Verizon store looking to buy a new phone as well. Overall a hard day, though I am making it through it OK.

Moving Soon!!

Come October I will be moving to Cocoa Beach, FL. I requested the move, because I have been in Texas for the last 5 years and it's time for a change. I will be working as part of the space command which I am excited for because I have been working for a training command for the 5 years I have been in Texas. The move will be quite stressful because it is so soon and I haven't started packing yet, but hopefully within the next month I get the ball rolling. I am excited for the new chapter in my life and excited to hit the beaches.

Starting off simple: The life of an distant learner

Distant learning has grown more popular over the years, mainly because it allows for flexibility and availability. All you need is your text book and an Internet connection to start classes. The main reason I chose distant learning over traditional classrooms is because I am active duty military and I change locations constantly, as well as a full time worker. Distant learning works with my schedule because I know I have one week to finish up each course criteria and my only scheduled event is the seminar, which can made up through a seminar 2 option. I am offered a great deal of flexibility and work at my own pace and on my own schedule. As long as you can communicate well, have an Internet connection and possess time management skills anyone can be a distant learner.
