Unit 10

My spiritual well-being was a four back in unit 3, while my physical and psychological scores were 9 and 8 respectfully. If I had to score myself today I would probably rate myself the same the only difference many of the stressors I had in unit 3 have fade away and am far happier now. Maybe it’s fair to say this class has something to do with it, although I am unsure. This class has opened my eyes and I am more cognizant of my well-being after taking this class. I preach for people to relax at work and take a moment to think in between my patients at the hospital.
I am trying to make progress, hopefully taking time to clear my mind will keep me fresh and focused on the tasks I have ahead. Spiritually I am still trying to find myself and look towards a higher power, although I do have faith and take that seriously.
I have implemented relaxation techniques through calm abiding. Sometimes with my car ride to work I think of things I love and it sort of energizes my day. I also work out harder than I normally did, and assist others to work out as hard they can. Before the people I worked out with would not push themselves to the max and as of late I am full throttle. I will assist in any help I can for those who are struggling physically. Mentally I am less stressed and have helped others through hard times. When this class first kicked off I was going through very stressful times. I have learned to relax and will share my techniques with others. The difficulty lies with maintaining a positive outlook on life when times are hard and always strive to better you mentally, physically and spiritually. Without these traits one can’t achieve integral health.

Unit 9 Blog revised

Introduction
As the health industry changes so does our approach to treating patients. Health and wellness professionals have the ability to understand the deeper and more profound aspects to healing, rather than simply viewing the signs and symptoms of injury of disease. Alternative medicine approaches focus on the inner health rather than the outer health and the mind rather than the body. Its purpose is to promote human flourishing and alleviate unnecessary suffering for the patient.
Health and wellness professionals must obtain and develop the interdisciplinary studies of integral health in all three categories spiritually, mentally, and physically in order for them to spread these techniques to others. A health and wellness professional must be well grounded and able to connect with others to help them find their inner self and promote healing on the inside first to help alleviate the problems on the outside. One must look inward first than outward to fully grasp the concepts of wholeness and happiness in their life.
I must obtain a spiritual well-being because it seems as though it is the hardest to achieve. I must practice and incorporate the concepts of meditation and relaxation techniques into my daily routine. I must look and seek a higher power that will drive me mentally and physically. If I am able to apply these relaxation techniques and fulfill my spiritual aspect of healing the other aspects of holistic health will soon fall in line.

Assessment
When assessing my own development in the concepts of spiritual, physical, and psychological wellness I scaled to the best of my knowledge. When assessing my physical well-being I must say I am the most developed in this state. I take care of my body, and give it proper nutrients and a wide variety of food groups. I exercise three times a week, and live an active, healthy lifestyle. I would scale myself around an 8.5, because there is always room for improvement.
Psychologically I would scale myself an 8 because I do become stressed often from the stressors of life. I stay well grounded for the most part, and am currently partaking in exercise techniques to calm my mind and not worry about the little things.
Spiritually I would scale myself at a 5 and am still trying to find myself. I am not the most religious person but do live by a group of core values that hold true to me and give me the strength to persevere.

Goal development
I must set goals and obtain them if I want to develop my mind, body and spirit in order to flourish on all levels of integral health. I know if I set my mind to these goals and really try to incorporate them into my life, I can sustain and further promote my health and lifestyle decisions.
One goal that I set for with the spiritual aspect is to read or take a theology class in the near future to really try and find a higher spirit that will govern me help guide me towards a life of happiness, hope and faith. I understand spiritual health is not all about religion, although I need to add more faith to my life.
Physically I must maintain my exercise and nutrition plan. In October I had a stress fracture in my leg that hindered my ability to exercise and I became complacent in my weekly fitness schedule. I received this injury from working out too much and become quite lazy for a few months instead of rehabbing. It is not until now I am getting my energy back to fulfill my physical aspect of health and will be out there running a 5K tomorrow morning at 645 AM. The injury was painful and it led me off course with development, I must stay on course to obtain this level of health.
Psychologically I must not let stress get the best of me and take time to practice the relaxation techniques we learned throughout the course. I work in a high stress area with many complaining patients and staff, if I take the time to accomplish one task at a time and relax my mind I will be able to not clutter my mind and focus more clearly at each task I take on.

Practices for Personal Health
Physically I must follow a proper nutrition plan that benefits my body and also provides the fuel I need for the day. I can take these practices from books, or taking nutrition advice from the dieticians I work with in the medical field. With exercise I tend to have the same routine I must be able to more well -rounded and focus on all target groups in order to see the maximum benefit for my body. If that means working out one more day a week or allotting more time for my workouts it’s what I need to do to see my potential in the physical aspect.
Psychologically I must practice relaxation techniques that work for me, whether it be a form of yoga, meditation or biofeedback. I will find out which practice or technique works best for me and incorporate it into my life. I must take time to exercise my brain, and always look to actively learn something new instead of concentrating on trivial items such as television or video games. The brain is a muscle that needs constant stimulation in order to develop. I will plan out my time accordingly that will reduce the amount of time I allot for trivial things and replace them with constant learning activities.
Spiritually I must follow a faith that will help guide me through life and give me the strength to carry on when times get rough. I plan on studying different faiths and learn from them and develop my own spiritual guide that will help govern my way of thinking and beliefs. I must also detect destructive emotions and replace them with a healthy set of behaviors and attitude. I must learn to make the best choice for me and not act on impulse or negative behavior rather use thought and logic to further development my ideas. I must be able to reach deeper layers of the mind to reveal wisdom, loving-kindness and seek inner peace.

Commitment
I can track my progress through goals if I set realistic 6 month goals and fail than I will identify where I went wrong and go back to the drawing board, so to speak. I must create smaller goals that are easily obtained which lead to a long term goal in order to stay on track. When accomplishing these smaller goals my confidence will grow and I will able to track my progress to the final goal of sustained health, happiness and wholeness which are components of integral health. If I notice I am moving in the right direction I will take time to remind myself the power I will feel and person I will become if I reach my goal. Hopefully this will give me the energy and commitment to carry on throughout my journey to integral health.

Unit 9 blog

In order to fulfill and sustain a life of holistic/integral health one must first develop psychologically, spiritually and physically. You must complete your inner self and ground yourself mentally than work towards the other developed categories second. If I follow a plan, there is no doubt that I can achieve the happiness and wholeness I endure for my life.
Physically - I must follow my exercise plan and eat right because that is the fuel that will govern my body. Eating right will not only fuel my body but also reverse the effects of cardiovascular disease, diabetes and obesity.
Mentally – I must apply relaxation techniques into my daily routine because sometimes the stressors of life can get the best of you. I must develop and learn most things in life, to keep my brain active and exercise it to be mentally tough and able to handle anything that comes my way.
Spiritually – We all have a purpose and it’s our duty to fulfill this higher purpose by finding it. Something needs to drive us when we are down and lift our spirits to achieve greatness. Spiritual healing is usually the hardest step to fulfill but once obtained, integral health is within grasp.
Everyone is unique and different and have their own approach to holistic/integral health. With that in mind this formula will work for some but not all and vice versa. Meditation seems like the best approach to relax for me while yoga might be for another. Whatever approach you take, just know you must stick with your choices and create a whole new outlook on life and see the world as half full versus half empty.

Unit 8

The subtle mind and visualization meditation practices I chose and for good reason. The loving-kindness exercise had me visualize one specific thing or object and focus merely on that. My mind enjoys the subtle visualization where I concentrate on my breathing and clearing my mind of all the trivial items and help guide me making better decisions through clarity. The mental visualization allows me to focus on events that made me happy or events that could happen where I can visulize something exciting. When I visualize something positive it keeps my spirits up and rubs on to others around me creating a positive karma that fills the room. Visualization techniques allow me to conentrate on what makes me happy and is great for you mentally as well the whole person, mind, body and spirit.

Unit 7

I found the exercise to be quite rewarding. As I listened to the Mp3, I envisioned the same techniques and outline that were heard in the previous Mp3’s. I was simply wrong and am able to visualize more so than I had in the previous units. Maybe it’s my mind opening up more and really taking time to understand the journey of the narrator’s voice and sounds. When I began to visualize I opened my mind and explored the healing aspects of my mental and physical ability to heal. I was able to focus and visualize on certain events and take time to reflect and then heal my emotional scars by listening to the Mp3.
“One cannot lead another where one has no gone himself” (p.477). First off sometimes it is not always possible to experience everything for yourself. If you are able to listen and take time to listen to someone they can take you through the journey of their experience where you can empathize and then lead by given advice. As in simple daily practices such as the workplace, I can be a strong follower to someone who understands my position and knows what I am going through. They can help lead me through certain situations that others may not fully understand. If I let my voice be heard than maybe someone can relate to a certain experience in life and them to could also help me in certain situations.

Unit 6 Blog

Loving Kindness exercise was really helpful is making me see there is more to loving-kindness that meets the eye. Loving kindness is not only the feeling you have for a loved one but the capacities you have for all living things. This assessment had me repeat 4 phrases for 10 minutes. Upon repetition I allowed myself to open my heart and mind in the development of loving kindness. I looked for all individuals to live a life of sustained health, happiness and wholeness to include those who I might be an enemy of.
The integral assessment allowed me to analyze myself and realize which areas of my mental activity need the most attention or the areas I a most weak. I was able to view all aspects psychospiritual, biological, interpersonal, and worldly and relate it to my thoughts and assessment of myself. I was able to analyze which areas needed development and which areas I felt developed on. I was able to identify a weakness in myself that could be strength in someone else. I came to realize people are unique in their own and have different areas where they can develop. As long as we are able to be our toughest critic and note the needing of future development, only than we can sustain a life of integral health.

Unit 5 Blog

The subtle mind practice was more helpful than the loving kindness exercise. When listening to the subtle mind practice it really caught my attention and explained to me how to properly focus. The loving kindness exercises relaxed me to only a certain point but never reinforced the idea of focus and limiting outside distractions. I was able to really relax with the subtle mind practice because I was able to concentrate on the narrators voice instead of an image that the loving kindness exercise wanted me to explore.
There is a known connection between the mind and body. If we are able to apply the concept of mind/activity levels in our activity we will have a more expansive sense of the body with its relationship to the body. We must break through and separate ourselves to experience a high consciousness which opens us up to a lightness that enters out life which directly cleanses the mind and body. All three components of the mind, body and spirit are used to achieve full integral health.
